CLEVELAND (WJW) — A group of veteran Cleveland journalists were honored Saturday during a hall of fame induction ceremony held by the Greater Cleveland Association of Black Journalists.
The organization inducted several members into its inaugural class including beloved and important members of the Fox 8 family.
Photojournalist Richard “Zoom” Scott, who you may recognize as our morning Sky Fox videographer, was inducted along with the late Herb Thomas who was also an award-winning photojournalist at WJW for decades.
“Channel 8, thank you for all that you’ve done for me over the years. The past 40 years have actually helped me get to where I am today, and I could not be so grateful. And also to go in with Herb Thomas, legendary cameraman, and Pete Cary, from also Fox 8 back in the day, so thank you so much. This event it just overwhelming,” said Scott.
Pete Cary was the first African-American TV news reporter in Cleveland when he joined WJW in 1966.
Longtime radio host and Fox 8 contributor Jimmy Malone was also honored.
The organization will host National Association of Black Journalists annual convention and career fair in Cleveland this August which also marks the group’s 50th anniversary.
