CLEVELAND, Ohio — Danita Harris is returning to morning television. Harris, who spent 24 years at WEWS Channel 5 before retiring in December, will join WKYC Ch. 3 as the new anchor of “GO!”, the station’s morning newscast that airs weekdays from 5-7 a.m. Her first show is Monday, April 8.

“I’ve been given such a great opportunity to work in television because it connects me to people,” Harris said in a statement. “Here at 3News, they’re already doing that. They have great journalism and a deep commitment to community, to making a difference in people’s lives. It aligns with who I am as a person. It is my passion, it is my profession, and it is my purpose. And I can’t think of a better place to do it than right here at WKYC.”

Harris replaces Maureen Kyle, who announced her departure from the broadcast last week to focus on her streaming show, “Mom Squad” for WKYC parent company Tegna, work on special projects and spend more time with her family. Harris will share the news desk with current “GO!” anchor Dave Chudowsky and senior meteorologist Matt Wintz.

“Danita’s integrity and her deep commitment to the communities of Northeast Ohio make her an incredibly knowledgeable and impactful journalist,” added Micki Bynes, WKYC’s president and general manager. “We are thrilled she’s joining our team.”

Five months ago, Harris announced her exit from WEWS, saying it was time for her to move on. Her impact on the community goes beyond an Emmy-winning broadcast career. In 2016, Harris launched S.H.I.N.E., a spiritually-based nonprofit that empowers people, particularly women, facing personal challenges.
